Project description

Feminist UX of AI

💭 What might our interactions with AI systems look like if they were designed from feminist values?

Led by Nadia Piet as part of the RAAIT program, this design research project uses speculative design to imagine a UX of AI informed by feminist HCI principles and beyond commercial design conventions. Through participatory workshops, we co-created over 20 speculative wireframes, or provotypes, that speak to alternative AI interfaces and affordances. The collection evokes themes of meaningful participation, agency, mindful friction, contestability, computational literacy, plurality of needs, agonistic design, ecological impact, democratic values and more.

The provotypes serve as catalysts for critical reflection and discourse, inviting designers and the public to consider the politics of interface design and take part in interrogating and re-imagining AI interfaces. The project includes a library of provotypes, workshop facilitation kit, UI components, and a research paper - all aimed at fostering a pluralistic approach, continued dialogue, and collective agency in shaping the design of AI systems.
